But it was not until the 16th century that Spanish explorers introduced the plant to the Spanish Court, where it met with great acclaim. Mate, which contains caffeine, is known to combat tiredness and energise both mind and body: in a dose of 250 mg to 2g/day.
Ash Ash leaves are known for their purgative action! Imposing in size (it can grow up to heights of 30 m), the ash (Fraximus excelsior) is said in Norse mythology to be the tree that holds up the world. As early as the 12th century, Abbess Hildegard of Bingen was recommending ash leaves as a way of "purging the body of water".
Black radish A tuber with a distinctive taste! Black radish (Raphanus niger), sometimes also referred to as black horseradish, is a winter radish, usually cylindrical in shape, with a black or purplish skin, whose flesh has a distinctive spicy flavour.
Caraway An ancient spice that facilitates digestion Caraway is a small plant in the Apiaceae family. A cousin of fennel and anise, this age-old spice is primarily grown for its leaves and seeds which have excellent aromatic qualities. As early as 1500 BC, the Egyptians were using it to promote digestion. Today, the active ingredients it contains have validated this traditional use of the plant to support.
Guarana Clusters of little red berries from the Amazon basin to give you an energy boost! Native to the Amazon rainforest and characterised by small bright red fruits, whose main active ingredient is caffeine (also known as "guaranine"), the guarana plant has a higher caffeine content in its seeds (3% to 5%) than coffee beans (1% to 2%). It is known to help maintain mental and physical vitality (in a dose of at least 75 mg/day).
Dandelion The benefits of dandelion The dandelion (Taraxacum dens leonis), also known as "Lion's tooth", is a plant with yellow flowers familiar to everyone, especially when these flowers turn into white balls whose downy strands are carried by the slightest puff of wind, dispersing the seeds over a large area.
Fennel A Mediterranean plant with a sweet aniseed fragrance! Fennel or "sweet dill" has been used since ancient times for its culinary qualities because of its fragrant aniseed aroma. It is a plant that grows abundantly in Mediterranean countries and is one of the 88 plants decreed essential to a medicinal garden by Charlemagne.
Meadowsweet The benefits of meadowsweet Meadowsweet is a tall, elegant perennial plant, which grows abundantly in damp meadows throughout Europe. Its majestic appearance explains its alternative name "Queen of the Meadows"; however, it also goes by a number of other names such as Lady of the meadow, bee’s flower, goat's beard, spirea, etc.
Blackcurrant The properties of blackcurrant leaves The blackcurrant is a bushy shrub, native to the Nordic countries, which produces small black berries with a delicious tangy flavour. All parts of the plant are used in herbal medicine (fruit, roots and leaves). Its leaves are particularly high in flavonoids and proanthocyanidols. Blackcurrant is known to contribute to the maintenance of normal muscle and joint function.
Mint The benefits of mint Peppermint or mentha piperita is a sterile plant with dark green pointed leaves. While its distinctive and refreshing fragrance is universally popular, it also has a number of physiological properties: it is especially known to support good digestion and exert a positive effect on the intestines, but its leaves are also used to soothe the throat and mouth.
Green coffee The coffee with the highest caffeine content In their natural state, coffee beans are green and what we call "green coffee" is in fact raw coffee that has not yet been roasted. As the roasting process reduces its caffeine content, green coffee is therefore high in caffeine. In addition, green coffee contains chlorogenic acid. Click here to find out more about coffee.
