A plant with draining action
Orthosiphon (Orthosiphon aristatus), also known as “Java Tea”, is a perennial plant originating from tropical Asia and belonging to the Lamiaceae family. It grows solely in warm, humid climates and is characterised by its white flowers sporting long stamens that have also earned this plant the nickname of “cat whiskers”.
Orthosiphon is traditionally known as a natural draining plant. Thanks to its draining, depurative action, it is recommended in particular as a supplement in slimming programmes where it promotes urinary and gastrointestinal elimination.
It is also known to help boost liver function and control blood glucose levels (at the rate of 1.2 g/day).
Orthosiphon is used especially in the composition of food supplements and slimming herbal teas.
