The calming benefits of lemon balm
Native to the Mediterranean basin and Western Asia, lemon balm, a perennial plant with a lemony fragrance, is rich in nectar which attracts bees. Since the 15th century, lemon balm has been known for its calming properties. Many scientific studies have shown that lemon balm improves sleep quality: it is particularly acknowledged to help maintain a stable mood and good cognitive function, and to induce relaxation and sound sleep.
The view of herbal therapist Jean Jacques DESCAMPS: Legend has it that bees will never leave a place where there is lemon balm growing! Now, as everyone knows, bees are never mistaken… Lemon balm does not sting and moreover, it has a wonderful lemony fragrance which has given rise to a number of popular names such as Melissa, citronella, lemon mint, bee pepper and French tea. In our long experience, we have never come across any particular reactions to the use of lemon balm, even consumed in large quantities.
