Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a tall perennial native to Asia. Only its rhizome is used, both in cooking and traditional medicine. Its essential oil content enhances its aromatic quality and it has a distinctive spicy taste due to the presence of gingerols. Among other attributes, ginger is known to contribute the body's natural defences, boost vitality and energy and help to manage inflammation (dose: 100 to 200 mg of extract /day or 1 to 2 g of powder). Ginger also has recognised antioxidant properties (dose: 0.05 to 2.5g of extract).
